From the moving Lady of Mali, who from the top of her cliff contemplates the lowlands that stretch to Senegal to the village of Ainguel via the ladders of Lelouma, a high place of the conquest of Fouta Djalon by the Fulani people, this itinerary plunges us into the heart of Fulani history and legends.
A journey through time, memory and the extraordinary human warmth of Guineans today and yesterday!
This trek in Guinea and Senegal is a real immersion in the traditions of ethnic groups that have kept their culture alive.
The great wonder of this trip is also a site of megalithic circles extending over a hundred kilometers along the banks of the Gambia River, dating from the 2nd millennium BC to the 17th century.
The Siné Saloum will amaze you with its diversity, its thousands of birds. Welcome to the land of Teranga.

Day 1: Paris – Conakry.
Welcome at the airport and transfer to your accommodation. Night at the hotel
Day 2: Conakry, Samaya, Waliah
Departure for Kindia where we will make a stop and then take the track to reach the weekly market (Sundays only) on the banks of Lake Samaya.
The arrival of the pirogues filled with seasonal fruits and vegetables, the colors of the boubous, the clamor of the sellers and buyers, will immerse you in the world of traditional Guinea Soussou.
The lake is a huge dam lake that has isolated the villages on the other side of the hills.
The villagers therefore gather every Sunday to sell, buy and especially exchange the latest news! We then cross the lake to reach the village where we will spend the night in camp.
Dust ball in the evening.
Transfer: 4X4, between 5am and 7am, 160 km
Day 3: Waliah – Kindia – Dalaba
Departure for Dalaba. Change of landscapes and climate as we climb towards Fouta Djalon. Crossing rice fields, forests and villages.
Along the way, visit the very colorful market of Kindia with the dyers and sculptors.
Visit the small town of Dalaba, a former resort in colonial times, it has a certain charm with its colonial houses, such as the villa Jeanine, residence of the Governor then of Sékou Touré, the palaver hut, the pine forests.
Night at the hotel.
Transfer: 4X4, between 3:30am and 4:30am, 155 km
Day 4: Dalaba -Doucky – Kokoulo
Track to Doucky where we will be welcomed by Hassan Bah, the master of the Cliffs. Hiking through the cliffs and their strange rock formations.
We will spend the night on the banks of the Kokoulo River.
4 hours of walking. Elevation gain: 400 m Transfer: 4X4, 3 hours
Day 5: The Doucky ladders
A beautiful day of hiking with the ascent of the nine famous Doucky ladders, nestled in a fault in the cliff, which are still used today to reach the plateau and the markets.
It is a series of nine ladders made of bamboo and vines that must be climbed in a fault. Dinner and night at the camp in a tent or hut.
Warning: some passages in the ladders can be considered level 3 shoes (breaks included in the indicated walking time).
Walking hours: between 5h and 6h Elevation gain: 500 m Elevation loss: 500 m
Day 6 Labé
Road to Labé. We will visit the weavers set up on the side of the road in the small town of Pita.
Visit Labé and its large market. We will then visit the Fouta Museum, a real dive into the world of the Fulani of Fouta-Djalon.
Local everyday objects but also weapons, books, etc. in a large hut full of history.
An excellent initiative that is enriched by the eloquence of Mrs. Koumanthio Zeinab Diallo, director of the museum and first poetess of Guinea.
Day 7 Labé, Saala
We will take the road again to reach the Saala Falls, the highest in Guinea. Walk around the falls. Perhaps we will be lucky enough to see and hear the chimpanzees.

Day 8 Mali, Yemberen
We take the track again to reach Mali Yemberen. Again, change of landscape, many encounters while crossing the villages.
We will arrive at Tensira, where we will be welcomed by Oumar Sadio and his family.

Day 9: Mali,
the legend of the Lady and Mount Loura
The Lady of Mali, an extraordinary face sculpted by the wind and rain, is so beautiful that one cannot help but build one’s own legend.
Free time to meet the inhabitants of Tensira, very fond of contacts, visit the school and live in the « Guinean » way.
The day will end with the sumptuous sunset on the Lady and with music and dancing with the villagers.
Local dinner prepared by the chief’s wife.
Day 10: Mali / Dindéfélo
Track to join Dindéfélo where you will meet the Senegalese team. Road to the Senegalese border and the Dindéfélo Falls.
Located in the region of Kédougou, Dindefelo is this famous waterfall that is the attraction of the Bassari Country.
It is a hidden gem in the depths of a labyrinth and wants to welcome you to the haven of peace. Short walk to the Falls and swimming.
Accommodation at the Dogon du Fouta. Construction of huts with authentic, purely Senegalese decoration.
Day 11 and 12: Hiking in the Bédick and Bassaris country.
Hiking in the villages. Bassaris and Bédiks, settled between the 11th and 19th centuries in eastern Senegal, have developed specific cultures, living in symbiosis with their environment.
They have kept their traditions alive.
Hiking without difficulty, small differences in altitude in the hills.
Night at the Dogon du Fouta and road to Kédougou and overnight at the Relais Bédick.
Day 13: Kédougou / Kuntaur in Gambia
Road to the Kuntaur region and crossing the border point between Senegal and Gambia.
5h30 on roads (about 190 miles).
Completely landlocked in Senegal to the north, south and east, Gambia is bordered to the west by the Atlantic Ocean where the mouth of the Gambia River is located.
It shares historical roots with other West African countries that have experienced the practice of the slave trade.
Kuntaur is a small town on the banks of the river.
Day 14: Kuntaur / Toubacouta
31km and about 40 minutes to reach the entrance to the megalithic area.
Completely landlocked in Senegal to the north, south and east, Gambia is bordered to the west by the Atlantic Ocean where the mouth of the Gambia River is located.
It shares historical roots with other West African countries that have experienced the practice of the slave trade.
The great interest of this walk in Gambia is the megalithic circles! Listed as UNESCO World Heritage, they date from between the 2nd century BC and the 16th century AD.
We have little more information than in Brittany, but the first excavations indicate a rich people with incredible know-how.
The Senegambian megaliths total more than 1000 megalithic monuments concentrated on a 100-kilometer wide strip along the Gambia River.

Day 15: Toubacouta
Visit and continue towards the Senegalese border to reach Toubacouta, a village in Senegal located in the Sine Saloum in the south of Foundiougne between Sokone and Karang post.

Day 16: Toubacouta – SINE SALOUM
VISIT TO THE VILLAGE OF SIPO.
Sipo is a charming fishing village located on the edge of the Saloum Delta National Park, along a huge stretch of sea called « the Bolong du Barrdiala ».
The inhabitants of the village live mainly from fishing, growing and harvesting high-quality straw used to cover the roofs of local homes.
The village is populated by about a hundred inhabitants who are led by Fatou Touré, a very emblematic lady, who is no less than 90 years old and is called throughout the region, the « Queen of Sipo ». Her son lssa fulfills the role of village chief.
Our hotel has very close ties with Sipo, which it protects and assists as it should, given the difficulties of getting around, given its island character.
Sipo is a bit of a hub between the ocean and all the surrounding villages, and, as you will see, this small village has become very famous.
We have an open camp, with an awning, tables and benches allowing the organization of picnics and magnificent swimming in the clear waters of the river.

Day 17: Toubacouta – SINE SALOUM
Missirah is a fishing village. It is reached by taking a red dirt road.
The nature is very diverse and pleasant to discover: corn fields, bissap flowers and cashew trees, hamlets and small friendly villages and above all, a beautiful forest that becomes thicker as you approach the village of Missirah.
With a minimum of luck you will meet many green and red cercopithecus monkeys, warthogs and birds of prey. Visit the village and the port.
Not to be missed under any circumstances: a thousand-year-old cheese tree with very impressive antlers, whose trunk measures 30 meters in circumference.
The bird resting place is a canoe ride done at the end of the day (around 5 p.m.)
Visit of the shell island, called in Wolof « Diorom Boumag ».
This island is made up of a huge shell pile more than 20 meters high and 300 meters wide created by human action, between the 7th and 13th centuries, and which served as a burial place for the Serer lords.
Immense and majestic baobabs have taken root there and shelter colonies of collared « parakeets » and « Youyous » parrots.
We take the canoe again to reach the Bird Resting Place, another island dotted with mangroves that shelter hundreds of birds that gather there to spend the night.
The boats’ engines are turned off and the spectacle of the pelicans, sometimes passing a few meters above the heads, is impressive.
This dormitory is frequented by many water birds such as cormorants, white or gray egrets, and other kingfishers who compete in aggression among themselves in order to find a place to perch and spend the night, in an indescribable racket.
Night in camp.
Day 18-Return to Dakar.
You will discover the capital of West Africa between history and modernity by passing through the Plateau district, Place de l’Independence, you will pass by the Grande Corniche and the monument of the African Renaissance symbol of the city of Dakar.
6 p.m. rowboat for Gorée Island.
Installation in a guest house. Dinner and night.
Day 19: Gorée Dakar France
After the fury of the capital of West Africa and 20 minutes by boat, the island of flowers will appear to you as a haven of peace.
Colonial house, narrow streets lined with Bougainvillea, between history and modernism this small island has a lot to offer.
You will discover the museum of the slave house, for the dark side of history as well as the museum of the fort of Estrées which highlights the long history of Gorée.
A stroll through the streets and the castle will make you discover the Gorée of today.
Visits to the slave house and the museum of the fort of Estrées.
